Gang of 80 Thieves Ransacks a Nordstrom Store in California in Under a Minute
By Ryan StealTwo seasoned police officers say a shoplifting incident involving 80 people accused of stealing merchandise and fleeing a Nordstrom store in California in under a minute on Saturday night is one of the worst they’ve ever heard of. “I haven’t seen smash-and-grabs in such a mass scale. Authorities say that the burglars were in and out of the store in less than a minute. Requests for comment from police in Hayward and Walnut Creek, approximately 30 miles northeast, weren’t returned as at Monday. Last month, Walgreens announced the closure of five shops in San Francisco due to organized retail robbery.

It was around 2 a.m. Thursday when investigators say Clay and another man, Anthony Scott, tried to rob off-duty Miami-Dade corrections officer Travis Scott. Both Anthony Scott and Clay fired shots, hitting Travis Scott in the hand, police say. Travis Scott returned fire, hitting Anthony Scott in the neck. Authorities say Clay drove Anthony Scott to Homestead Hospital, where Anthony Scott later died. Clay’s charges include attempted second-degree murder, second-degree felony murder, attempted armed robbery and tampering with evidence.

McKellen won a special Olivier — his seventh — for his one-man 80th birthday tour of the U.K., staged before the pandemic as a fundraiser for regional theaters. A handful of theaters have reopened to reduced, socially distanced audiences, but many are still shut and relying on emergency funding from the government to stay afloat. Olivier organizers say the next awards ceremony will likely not be until 2022, because so little work has been staged this year.
