Indoor farming start-up with Martha Stewart on its board joins the SPAC craze to go public
An indoor farming start-up that heralds itself as the future of agriculture and has Martha Stewart on its board announced Tuesday it is going public through a reverse merger, the latest in a series of blank-check deals during the coronavirus pandemic. AppHarvest operates a 60-acre facility in Morehead, Kentucky, that it says is one of the world's largest high-tech greenhouses. The capital raised through the deal will be used to scale up AppHarvest's indoor farming facilities, according to a release. Webb defended the valuation, contending it reflects both the opportunity and the necessity for indoor farming in the world as it experiences the realities of climate change alongside a growing population. Stewart, appearing on "Squawk Box" alongside Webb, said she was motivated to join AppHarvest's board by its mission of environmental sustainability.cnbc.com

Doesn't sound like stepping down, Bharara tweeted soon after the announcement was made Friday night that Geoffrey S. Berman was out. He explained he was appointed by Manhattan federal judges and wouldn't budge until a successor was confirmed by Congress. A few months into his work, Manhattan judges appointed him permanently because Trump never formally nominated him.
B. Smith, model turned restaurateur and lifestyle guru, has died at 70
Smith died Saturday evening after battling early onset Alzheimer's disease, which she was diagnosed with in 2013. Her successful home products line was the first from a black woman to be sold at a nationwide retailer when it debuted in 2001 at Bed Bath & Beyond. In 1976, she became the second black model to be on the cover of Mademoiselle magazine, after Joli Jones in 1969. Some described Smith as a "black Martha Stewart," a comparison she said she didn't mind though she believed the two lifestyle mavens were quite different. She hosted the nationally syndicated television show "B. Smith with Style" for nearly a decade, which aired on NBC stations.cbsnews.com
Drake goes into business with Canadian cannabis firm
On Thursday, Aubrey Drake Graham, best known as hip-hop artist Drake, partnered with Canadian cannabis giant Canopy Growth to launch the More Life Growth Company cannabis producer in Graham's hometown of Toronto. Drake joins a surging wave of celebrities who have aligned themselves with the cannabis industry by selling products, joining corporate boards, or, in this case, creating a joint venture business. It made perfect sense that Snoop Dogg, actor Seth Rogen and even Snoop's pal Martha Stewart were venturing into the cannabis industry. Drake's arrangement with Canopy Growth does stand apart from most of the celebrity cannabis deals, which are mostly endorsements, minority investments or advisory roles. "Canadian cannabis brand development is difficult with restrictions specifically prohibiting utilizing celebrity names, and we believe Canopy is ceding a cash flow positive asset."
