DETROIT – A Black man who was wrongly arrested after the use of facial recognition technology by Detroit police will have his DNA, fingerprints and mugshot removed from law enforcement files, officials said Friday. Robert Williams was the victim of ā€œshoddy investigative work," police Chief James Craig said. Williams, 42, was arrested in January in front of his family at their home in Farmington Hills, a Detroit suburb. The ACLU, which opposes the use of facial technology by police, publicized Williams' case. He blamed it on ā€œsubparā€ work by police and prosecutors but said the technology can be useful if handled properly.

Providers of police facial recognition systems often point to research showing they can be accurate when used properly under ideal conditions. Several cities, led by San Francisco last year, have banned use of facial recognition by municipal agencies.

Pixabay(CNN) - A Pennsylvania couple is facing felony theft charges after their bank accidentally put $120,000 in their account, and the couple spent most of it instead of contacting the bank, police said. The bank error occurred May 31 when a customer in Georgia made a deposit of $120,000, and the BB&T Bank teller entered a wrong account number. The bank credited the correct account with the $120,000 and debited the same amount from the incorrect one, the affidavit said. Both Tiffany and Robert Williams told investigators they knew the money didn't belong to them, according to the affidavit. Nate Weaver, a neighbor of the couple, told WNEP that the allegations are "kind of shocking."
