PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. Long term care facilities have been hot spots for COVID-19, and there is a troubling rash of new cases at one Broward County home. The Alexander Nininger State Veterans Nursing Home in Pembroke Pines has seen cases of COVID-19 increae at an alarming rate. As of the latest numbers, 31 residents have tested positive and had to be transported to nearby medical centers, and 16 staff members have tested positive as well. The new data is concerning as the virus has been shown to spread quickly in long-term care facilities in Florida, and it can be deadly. PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – Seven military veterans who were residents of the Alexander Nininger State Veterans Nursing Home in Pembroke Pines have died of complications with the coronavirus, according to the Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs. Retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. R. Steven Murray, a spokesman of the Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs, reported the seventh resident died on Thursday“The hospitalized veteran was an elderly male resident on Hospice, and our condolences go to his family and friends,” Murray wrote in a statement. Murray said 11 Alexander Nininger State Veterans Nursing Home residents have tested positive for the coronavirus disease. “All but one asymptomatic resident are hospitalized either at a civilian hospital or at the Miami VA Medical Center,” Murray wrote. According to the Florida Department of Health’s most recent report, 622 residents of long-term care facilities have died of the coronavirus disease in the state.

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – A second military veteran who had been living at the Alexander Nininger State Veterans Nursing Home in Pembroke Pines died of COVID-19, the respiratory illness caused by the new coronavirus, the Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs announced Tuesday afternoon. The death of William Tetrault, 89, comes about 10 days after the highly contagious illness killed another military veteran who also lived at the 120-bed facility. William Tetrault, a veteran of the Korean War, died of COVID-19, his family announced on Tuesday. (Local 10 News Share)Danny Burgess, the executive director of the FDVA, released a statement saying the second Alexander Nininger State Veterans Nursing Home resident to die of COVID-19 suffered complications with a related illness. According to the Florida Department of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Protection has confirmed 48 cases of COVID-19 in Pembroke Pines.

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – The coronavirus pandemic continues to affect the Alexander Nininger State Veterans’ Nursing Home after a military veteran who lived at the home in Pembroke Pines died. As of Wednesday night, there were nine military veterans who tested positive for COVID-19. Murray said 41 tests were administered to residents and staff members, and another 50 tests will be administered this week. “The initial tests were conducted of residents and staff near where the residents who tested positive were residing,” Murray said. As of Wednesday afternoon, Broward County had 2,358 cases confirmed and 32 of them were in Pembroke Pines, according to the Florida Department of Health.
