An intense and spirited month of spring football culminated Saturday afternoon with Miami’s annual spring football game, taking place at Drive Pink Stadium. Third-year running back Henry Parrish Jr. crossed the end zone twice, leading all Hurricanes in rushing touchdowns. “They’re clicking.”Parrish finished the game with 42 yards on eight carries to go along with his pair of touchdowns. “I’m excited for him.”Returning starter Tyler Van Dyke led Miami’s first-team offense, throwing for 172 yards and a touchdown. “They made some plays as well.”UM’s offense did not completely dominate, however, as multiple Hurricanes stepped up for the defense.

After weeks of uncertainty surrounding the quarterback position, the Miami Hurricanes have a new permanent starting quarterback: Tyler Van Dyke. Head coach Manny Diaz announced Monday morning that D’Eriq King is having season-ending surgery to repair his shoulder injury. The redshirt senior sustained the injury against Michigan State on Sept. 18, and hoped to rehabilitate his shoulder before playing again later this season. “We knew the odds were, with the injury he suffered to his shoulder, that he would probably need surgery to correct it. Between the two games he played in, Van Dyke averaged a 62.5% pass completion rate, passed for 473 yards, and rushed for a net of six yards.

In last week’s loss, Miami missed 30 tackles yet exhibited few tackling shortages versus Central Connecticut State defense with a more physical, energetic and disciplined approach. Based off the evidence of what you saw today, it feels like both guys are guys we feel good about,” Diaz said on King.

Miami fans got a glimpse of their future Saturday morning when the Hurricanes wrapped up the spring football season with the annual spring football game. Van Dyke did not play in the second half of the scrimmage. “I feel like that was my best scrimmage of the spring,” Van Dyke said. “The future of the Miami Hurricane quarterback room is in good hands,” Miami head coach Manny Diaz said after the game. Rambo finished with seven receptions for 74 yards and looked really in-synch with both Van Dyke and Garcia.

With Garcia only being cleared to return from a foot injury one day before UM’s initial spring scrimmage, Van Dyke may be slightly ahead of the pack. Mike Harley led UM with 730 receiving yards in 2020, but only pro-bound tight end Brevin Jordan had more than 400 yards in 2020. “Understanding exactly how the coaches want me to play,” Huff said, is a basic facet of spring practice. The Canes conclude spring practice this week before Saturday’s annual spring game. It will be the final time Miami is displayed on a television audience before its Sept. 4 season opener in Atlanta against Alabama.

For the Hurricanes, the position is just one of many keys back to prominence. 7 pro-style passer in the 2020 high school class. But coronavirus restrictions on high school athletics in California drove the 4-star recruit to the state of Georgia, where he completed his high school career at Grayson High School in Loganville, Ga. Four-star quarterback Jake Garcia is officially a Miami Hurricane

Four-star quarterback Jake Garcia announced his commitment to the University of Miami Wednesday afternoon on an Instagram live. Originally committed to the University of Southern California, Garcia announced his decommitment from the Trojans two weeks ago on social media. Garcia played his first three years of high school in Southern California, but transferred to Valdosta High School in Georgia after California postponed the fall football season. Garcia was then deemed ineligible to play at Valdosta and transferred to Grayson High School in Loganville, Georgia. With Garcia’s commitment, Miami now has 21 commitments from the 2021 class.
