Florida reports 3,987 new COVID-19 cases Sunday, 29 resident deaths

Florida’s health department confirmed 3,987 new COVID-19 cases Sunday and 29 resident deaths as a result of the virus.

The state has now verified 2,008,349 COVID-19 cases since the outbreak began and 32,742 resident deaths, according to the latest health department data.

Another 627 non-residents have died in Florida from COVID-19.

Coronavirus-related deaths reported in the past day include one in Miami-Dade County and four in Broward County.

There have been 83,446 resident hospitalizations attributed to the novel coronavirus in the state.

At least 4,911,786 people have received vaccines in Florida, with 2,713,248 people in the state fully vaccinated.

Miami-Dade has had 620,778 people receive shots, Broward has had 431,353, Monroe 19,093 and Palm Beach County 377,134, according to the latest numbers posted by the state.

According to the CDC, over 900 cases of COVID-19 variants have been verified in Florida, most of any state. That includes at least 882 cases of the U.K. variant, 21 of the Brazilian variant and nine cases of the variant initially identified in South Africa.

The statewide positivity rate for yesterday’s testing was 6.23%.

Worldwide, the number of COVID-19 cases reported is over 123 million. There have been more than 2.7 million deaths worldwide attributed to the pandemic, according to data compiled from various sources by Johns Hopkins University.

The United States has confirmed over 29.7 million cases and has had more than 542,000 deaths from COVID-19, the highest totals in the world.
