Detectives determined Thurston disengaged the van's safety alarm before removing the children from the vehicle. Noah was left inside the hot van for hours. A medical examiner determined Noah died from hyperthermia as a result of being left inside the van unsupervised for an extended period of time.

OAKLAND PARK, Fla. - Broward Sheriff's Office deputies are searching for a man who was captured on home surveillance video swinging a sword at another man in Oakland Park during a dispute over a discarded plastic dump cart. Concepcion said the jogger decided to stop and go through the pile, as well, and then left with a black heavy-duty dump cart he found. But the other man apparently also wanted the dump cart and got angry because he had been looking through the pile first, Concepcion said. According to authorities, the jogger ran home with the cart and then realized that the other man had followed him. Concepcion said the jogger eventually told the man the attack was being captured on video and the man left but threatened to return.

OAKLAND PARK, Fla. - Broward Sheriff's Office deputies have identified the 2-year-old boy who was found dead inside a white Ford van in the sweltering heat Monday afternoon in Oakland Park. Noah Sneed was found dead in the van outside Ceressa's Daycare & Preschool on Northwest 21st Avenue. "Detectives confirmed the toddler had been transported in the van to the facility Monday morning," BSO spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion said. After deputies received the 911 call from the day care about 3:30 p.m., paramedics arrived and pronounced Noah dead. "Investigators are continuing to interview day care employees and other witnesses to determine the circumstances that led to the death," Concepcion said.

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. - A man is dead after a shooting in a Deerfield Beach neighborhood. The shooting occurred just after 9 p.m. Tuesday outside a home on Southwest Third Street. Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion said deputies arrived and found Laquan Miller, 26, lying in the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. LAUDERDALE-BY-THE-SEA, Fla. - Broward Sheriff's Office deputies are seeking to identify a man who was found dead on the beach over the weekend in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea. The beachgoers called 911 around 10:30 a.m. and authorities pronounced the man dead at the scene near Commercial Boulevard, just south of the pier. "BSO detectives say the man was found on the sand near a beach chair and beach mat. The man was described by authorities as a white man between the ages of 40 and 55, around 5 feet, 9 inches tall and about 190 pounds. POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – More than two dozen suspected gang members were arrested over the weekend in an operation aimed at stopping a rise in shootings and other crimes in the Pompano Beach area, authorities said. Keyla Concepcion, a spokeswoman for the Broward Sheriff's Office, said the operation started Friday and lasted into the early morning hours of Saturday. The roundup involved multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Broward Sheriff's Office, Fort Lauderdale Police Department and U.S. Border Patrol. At one point during the roundup early Saturday, two suspects realized they were about to be arrested and opened fire, but no one was hurt. The men face multiple charges, including drug possession and discharging a firearm.

The man charged in the theft, Lt. Donald Gilbert, is a 26-year BSO veteran who makes $90,000 a year working in the jail. "It tarnishes the badge, not just for BSO but for law enforcement in general," said BSO spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion. "Upon searching the purse, everything was found except for the cash that the woman had inside," Concepcion said. Gilbert told investigators that as a BSO lieutenant he'd never steal money, and that he'd just gotten lucky on the slots. "We're here to arrest people who commit crimes, even if it turns out to be a BSO deputy," Concepcion said.
