LAUDERHILL, Fla. – Lauderhill police are investigating after a man was fatally shot while driving over the weekend. The shooting was reported just after 10 p.m. Sunday in the area of 7500 W. Oakland Park Blvd. According to Lauderhill police Lt. Mike Santiago, officers responded to the scene and found the victim, Ta’Quan Smith, 27, of Lauderhill, unresponsive inside his vehicle with what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds. According to Santiago, it appears that Smith and another driver were heading west on Oakland Park Boulevard when the other driver shot at Smith for unknown reasons. Anyone with further information about the shooting is asked to call the Lauderhill Police Department at 954-497-4700.

Whether a new constitution can deliver the sweeping, egalitarian change that many in the country of 19 million people want won’t be clear for years. “How will a new Chilean constitution define new economic and social rights, which are only attainable if the funding resources are there?" The vote on a new constitution was the result of an agreement between the government of President Sebastian Piñera and the opposition. The old constitution was amended over the years, notably with the 2005 repeal of an article that had allowed appointed senators and senators for life in Congress. Also, Chile's Indigenous groups are not specifically mentioned in the old constitution, and there is a push for Indigenous candidates to be allowed to run in April for election to the constitutional convention.

"The objective of this state of emergency is very simple, but very profound," Piera said, "it's to ensure public order, bring peace to Santiago and protect public and private property." Piera condemned this week's violence and looting, saying that because of currency exchange fluctuations, it was necessary to raise the price of public transport. The President said that under special state security laws, those who caused the damage across the city would be prosecuted, the news agency added.

Google MapsYORK COUNTY, Pennsylvania (CNN) - State Police arrested a homeless man from California after he was spotted walking along Interstate 83 while carrying a machete Wednesday afternoon, WPMT reported. Lavonte Richard Santiago, 42, no fixed address, told police he had the machete so no one would cause him any trouble, State Police said in a criminal complaint. Santiago is charged with possessing a prohibited offensive weapon and walking in an area where pedestrians are prohibited, the complaint states. Police say Santiago was seen walking along I-83 North in Fairview Township, pushing a shopping cart. He was arrested on the prohibited weapon charge and taken to York County Central Booking for arraignment, police say.
