Lone Star Sadness: Horns, Aggies form Axis of Underachievers
At the top of USA Today's most recent revenue rankings for college athletic departments are Texas and Texas A&M. Texas and Texas A&M have everything needed to put out a national championship-level football program. The Aggies and Longhorns refuse to play each other but combine to form an Axis of Underachievers in the Lone Star State. In three games against Alabama under Fisher, the Aggies are 0-3 by a combined 144-75. For now, though, Texas and Texas A&M continue to prove the adage that money can't buy happiness.
Avila says Tigers aren't ruling out Hinch, Cora for manager
DETROIT – Tigers general manager Al Avila said Friday that Detroit is not ruling out the possibility of hiring A.J. Hinch or Alex Cora for its manager vacancy. Hinch and Cora were suspended through the 2020 postseason for their roles in the Houston Astros' sign-stealing scandal. The Astros fired Hinch and general manager Jeff Luhnow on Jan. 13 and Cora lost his job managing the Boston Red Sox the following day.. Cora spent the 2017 season as bench coach on Hinch's staff with Houston. Avila said it is important that the next manager be able to help with talent evaluation, since there are important decisions to make throughout the roster.
‘Match made in heaven’: Deion Sanders to coach Jackson State
Jackson State’s new football coach then stated “I believe” many times about what he envisions happening on and off the field. It’s a match made in heaven.”Currently the offensive coordinator at Trinity Christian School-Cedar Hill in Texas, Sanders is taking his first head coaching job. “Coach Prime” later opened a blue blazer lined with the JSU logo to much applause. Acting Jackson State President Thomas Hudson called the hiring “the grace of God” and cited the school's football history in landing Sanders. Sanders also played nine seasons with four clubs in Major League Baseball, appearing in the 1992 World Series with the Atlanta Braves.
Orgeron: Most LSU players have had, recovered from COVID-19
Most of LSU's football players have contracted and recovered from COVID-19, coach Ed Orgeron said Tuesday, leaving the coaching staff hopeful those players will remain eligible to play the bulk of the season before they have to be tested again. “I think, not all of our players, but most of our players have caught it,” Orgeron said during a video conference, adding later that he did not know the percentage of the roster that had tested positive. “So we look at the players that have caught it and say, ‘OK these guys should be eligible,’" Orgeron continued. So we’re looking at our roster in that manner.”Orgeron did not go into detail about whether any LSU players who tested positive have experienced symptoms. LSU officials have declined to make public precise counts or even percentages of players who have tested positive for antibodies or the disease itself.
Orgeron: LSU in the market for a transfer cornerback now
LSU coach Ed Orgeron is looking to add a transfer defensive back at a time when uncertainty caused by the coronavirus pandemic could theoretically help the No. Were a little short at cornerback, Orgeron said during a video media conference Tuesday. We are currently researching if there is a cornerback or maybe a nickel cornerback out there who is available. The Eagles play in the ACC and remain on track to play its fall season. In addition, Fresno State standout linebacker Justin Rice also transferred after the Mountain West Conference postponed its fall season.

Once we get to college football season, our goal right now is to have college football season start as planned, with fans in stands, the Republican governor told Austin television station KXAN. ___The Southeastern Conference is allowing voluntary athletic activities to occur on each of its campuses starting June 8, at the discretion of each university.

The caveat: Gordon threw 160 more passes than Burrow, who averaged 378.1 yards per game. Burrow, the ninth quarterback and 16th player to win the Heisman and national title in the same season, ended the season with 60 TD passes against just six interceptions. Burrow went into the championship game against Clemson on track to set the FBS season completion record. The Gators and Seminoles may be rivals, but they've got something in common this weekend -- they're both playing the underdog roles. For the second consecutive weekend, Florida has to prove its worth in a Southeastern Conference battle of undefeated teams. Meanwhile, unranked Florida State will have a tall task at the other "Death Valley" against No. The group was unanimous in picking the Tigers (as in, the Tigers of LSU and of Clemson) to beat the Sunshine State teams. But the majority of the group still seems high on Miami, despite a sloppy performance at home last weekend.

The college football prognosticators are unanimously picking seventh-ranked Auburn to beat No. The group is all in on the Wolverines, although Ian said he'd favor the Hawkeyes if they were playing at home. Ian and Liane are picking one-win UMass, led by former Florida State offensive coordinator Walt Bell, to beat the Panthers at Riccardo Silva Stadium. But Will and Clay are believers in Butch Davis' Panthers, at least for this weekend. The Huskies are just 1-3 this season and have lost each of their last three games.
