Walt Disney World to close ahead of Dorian's arrival
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - Even Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck will be hunkering down ahead of Hurricane Dorian. Walt Disney World announced late Monday that its theme parks will be shutting down early Tuesday afternoon in order to keep guests safe. The Magic Kingdom and Epcot will close at 3 p.m., while Disney's Hollywood Studios and Disney's Animal Kingdom will cease operations at 2 p.m. Both of the resort's miniature golf courses will also close at 3 p.m, along with Disney's Typhoon Lagoon water park. Stray cat prompts rabies alert near Disney World's Epcot theme park
(CNN) - Think twice before petting a stray animal at Florida's Disney World Resort. The Florida Department of Health in Orange County issued a rabies alert Tuesday after a cat that was found near the Epcot theme park tested positive for the disease. The feral animal was discovered near Epcot Center Drive and Interstate 4, just east of the park. "This alert should not give a false sense of security to areas that have not been named under this alert," the statement warned. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warns that rabies can be fatal, but it is preventable.
2 long-time Disney World rides to close doors for good
ORLANDO, Fla. – Sunday marked the end of an era for two popular Disney World rides. Fans will say their final farewell to Epcot’s Universe of Energy and Hollywood Studios’ The Great Movie Ride, two of the theme-parks’ longest-running rides. During Disney’s D-23 Expo last month, company officials plans to open a “Guardians of the Galaxy” ride in place of The Universe of Energy. The Great Movie Ride will also close its doors for the final time Sunday evening. The ride, which company officials described as “groundbreaking” will be Disney's first ride based on Mickey Mouse.
