Miami-Dade police said the victim shot the suspect multiple times during the attempted robbery. Miami-Dade Police said the shooting took place at 7 a.m. at the gas station near Northwest 79th Street and 13th Court. Neighbors told Local 10 News they heard gunshots. Resident Carlos Frometa lives next to the gas station and told Local 10 News’ Annaliese Garcia he heard what sounded like three gun shots.

Deputies said upon arrival, they located the suspected subject suffering from multiple gunshot wounds at a McDonalds restaurant next to the gas station. Local 10 News spoke with a man that identified himself as the owner of the gas station. That man spoke with Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies on scene, who told him that someone entered the gas station for what was believed to be an attempted armed robbery. According to the owner, the clerk fired his weapon in self-defense, striking the subject.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Four years after a Fort Lauderdale man seemingly vanished without a trace, police continue to search for him. Fort Lauderdale police said Steven Mackrell was last seen shortly before 3 a.m. July 30, 2015, at a Valero gas station in Pompano Beach. A short time later, Mackrell can be seen in the parking lot of the gas station, apparently smacking a car that was driving past him. Fort Lauderdale police spokeswoman Casey Liening said the video shows that Mackrell "was involved in what appears to be a dispute with the occupants of another vehicle."
