Jungle Island had five apes, including 16-year-old twins Peanut and Pumpkin, which were transported Friday to the Center for Great Apes. Several of the orangutans' family members already reside at the sanctuary for orangutans and chimpanzees, which sits on more than 100 secluded acres in Central Florida. MIAMI – Jungle Island is offering free online lessons beginning Monday for children who are out of school amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis. The fun online lessons on animals, nature and the Everglades are geared toward children ages 5 to 12. “While schools are closed and kids are bored and stuck at home, we decided to bring some of Jungle Island’s fine-feathered, scaly and cuddly friends directly to the computers of our young fans,” Jungle Island’s Education Manager Emma Guss said in a statement. Guss will post photos and a link to where children and their parents can locate the lesson of the day. MIAMI - One person was injured Sunday morning when a car crashed into a palm tree in Miami's Watson Island. The crash temporarily shut down MacArthur Causeway in both directions. Miami police officers closed two westbound lanes and one eastbound lane between the Miami Children's Museum and Jungle Island. Miami Fire Rescue took the person injured to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center. Detectives are investigating if speed was a factor in the crash.
