A Homestead man added three felony charges to a count of petit theft after pulling out a gun and threatening the life of a Home Depot employee who stopped him from stealing a $99 power tool, leading to his arrest Monday, according to police.

Suspected serial power tool thief arrested by BSO
BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – A man accused of being a serial power tool thief who targeted Home Depot stores throughout Broward County has been arrested, authorities announced this week. Alain Carre, 39, was arrested Feb. 25 in Lauderdale Lakes in connection with thefts from Home Depot stores in Deerfield Beach, Pompano Beach, North Lauderdale and Sunrise. He is accused of committing at least 11 thefts at Home Depot stores since Jan. 15, stealing more than $17,000 worth of merchandise. Carre faces multiple charges, including grand theft, resisting arrest without violence, fleeing or eluding law enforcement and operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license. He is currently being held at the Broward County Main Jail.

Economists had expected total orders would post a stronger advance of around 1% in December but noted that the overall gain was held back by the big drop in aircraft orders. Excluding transportation orders, total orders rose 0.7% in December, and that followed a 0.8% rise in November. “The December data are signaling still strong but slower growth in both business investment and equipment spending.”

Man wanted for stealing from 40+ stores up and down South Florida, detectives say
Authorities say he has committed over 40 thefts at Target and Home Depot stores throughout South Florida over the past three months. Jose Luis Cruz Jr. is accused of taking over $80,000 in value from the stores since Sept. 26, investigators say. Home Depot agrees to $17.5m settlement in 2014 data breach

BOSTON – Home Depot has reached a $17.5 million settlement with the attorney generals of 46 states and the District of Columbia over a 2014 data breach that exposed the payment card information of some 40 million customers. The Massachusetts Attorney General’s office detailed the settlement in a statement Tuesday, saying Home Depot agreed under its terms to employ a full-time chief information security officer among other measures. Cybercriminals hacked into Home Depot’s self-checkout point-of-sale systems using a third-party vendor’s username and password and installed malware that harvested the customer data from April through September 2014.

Home Depot reported revenue that missed forecasts Tuesday morning and lowered its sales outlook, too. Home Depot CEO Craig Menear said in a statement that some of the expected benefits from the company's One Home Depot initiative "will take longer to realize than our initial assumptions." Still, the sales setback for Home Depot Tuesday will only put a small dent in what has otherwise been a solid year for the company. 3 men steal $907 worth of chainsaws from Home Depot in Pembroke Pines
PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. - Pembroke Pines police are searching for three men they said stole $907 worth of chainsaws from a Home Depot. The theft was reported just before 8 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Home Depot at 11001 Pines Blvd. According to authorities, two of the men entered the store and placed three Echo chainsaws in a shopping cart. Police said the men then met a third man, who was wearing a red tank top, just inside the entrance door and the three proceeded to leave the store without paying for the chainsaws. Authorities said loss prevention officers tried to stop the men, but they got into a red vehicle and fled the scene.

Retailers among 2019's worst stocks

Nordstrom and Gap are the worst-performing stocks in the S&P 500 so far this year. Several other big brick-and-mortar retailers are among the market's biggest losers of the first half of 2019. All of those companies have recorded sluggish sales and profits as consumers increasingly shop online. And Home Depot, which faces less competition from Amazon and online shopping in general, is up more than 20%.
