news.yahoo.comCDC extends Covid restrictions for cruise ship industry to January
People come out to watch the new Carnival Cruise Line ship Mardi Gras as it departs on its maiden voyage, a seven-day cruise to the Caribbean from Port Canaveral, Florida on July 31, 2021. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention extended into January restrictions on the cruise ship industry that were set to expire next week, citing concerns over the highly contagious delta variant and breakthrough cases among vaccinated travelers. The CDC has allowed cruise ships to operate with conditions since October 2020, requiring masks onboard and vaccinations or testing of passengers and crew, among other safety precautions. "However, CDC decided to temporarily extend the Order due to the continued spread of the Delta variant." Cruise lines that fail to secure a Covid-19 Conditional Sailing Certificate from the CDC will be barred from operating in U.S. waters.

With cruises halted, PortMiami keeps it head above water
With cruises halted, PortMiami keeps it head above waterWritten by Jesse Scheckner on February 9, 2021AdvertisementAs the pandemic rages on, passenger ships remain harbored at PortMiami. The port would run into money troubles, Mr. Ostertholt said late last year, if cruise ships weren’t sailing at full capacity by April 19. A worst-case scenario in which passenger ships remain docked for two-plus years would see the port lose $285.5 million in previously guaranteed revenue. In exchange for the bailout, Miami-Dade asked only that cruise lines still guarantee vessel calls at PortMiami, maintain passenger volumes here relative to other US ports and possibly meet other requirements “on a cruise line by cruise line basis,” Mr. Osterholt wrote. MSC Cruises, which in 2019 inked a 62-year, multibillion-dollar deal with the county, including plans for a $300 million “mega terminal” that will also serve Disney ships, canceled cruises through April 30 or later.

cnbc.comCarnival Cruise Line says it will sail again Aug. 1, a week after coronavirus no-sail order due to expire

Representatives of Carnival cruise line and owner Carnival Corp. did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment. In early March, as the virus spread rapidly among some cruise passengers, the State Department warned Americans against traveling by cruise ship. The committee, which says it has jurisdiction over maritime transportation issues, described cruise ships as "a fertile breeding ground for infectious diseases."

Officials reject Carnival’s entry plan for 2 ships to come to Port Everglades
The ships can’t dock at Port Everglades or even enter U.S. waters until unified command approves the cruise line’s entry plan, which has to include measures to keep the passengers away from the general population in Broward County. Unified command is made up of members from the U.S. Coast Guard and Florida Department of Health. We have over 300 U.S. citizens, fellow Americans, on the ships,” Broward County Mayor Dale Holness said. Both vessels are on their way to Port Everglades, but on Tuesday unified command rejected Carnival’s entry plan. Holness said meetings regarding the ships plans are ongoing, with Carnival and unified command sending documents back and forth and working to solidify an entry plan by Thursday.
