MIAMI – Carnival Cruise Line says it’s canceling its remaining cruises scheduled for November out of two Florida ports, as well as five cruises from Australia at the beginning of next year. The cruise line had previously announced it was canceling for the rest of the year all U.S. cruises except for trips out of Port Miami and Port Canaveral in Central Florida. But Monday’s announcement nixed trips in November on the six ships operating out of the two Florida ports. The cruise line says it is also notifying guests that five cruises on Carnival Splendor out of Sydney, Australia, next January and February have been canceled.

Carnival rival Norwegian Cruise Line said Thursday that it hasn’t canceled any scheduled cruises and remains optimistic it can resume U.S. operations soon. Norwegian is listing November cruises from Florida to the Bahamas and New York to Bermuda on its website.

Of the 1,211 passengers deemed fit for travel, most will be taken to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport to board chartered flights back home on Friday, said Port Everglades’ Alinda Montfort. De Pinho and his wife were on a two week South American voyage on the Zaandam ship when the new coronavirus began spreading on their ship.

Unified command is made up of members from the U.S. Coast Guard and Florida Department of Health. We have over 300 U.S. citizens, fellow Americans, on the ships,” Broward County Mayor Dale Holness said. Both vessels are on their way to Port Everglades, but on Tuesday unified command rejected Carnival’s entry plan. Holness said meetings regarding the ships plans are ongoing, with Carnival and unified command sending documents back and forth and working to solidify an entry plan by Thursday.

As the Carnival Glory cruise ship was maneuvering to dock, its rear struck the front of the Carnival Legend while it also waited to dock. The ships seaworthiness was not impacted while Carnival personnel assess the entirety of the damage, Stromfeld said. A statement from Carnival Cruise Line said a crew member on the Carnival Victory "was witnessed going overboard" while the ship was returning to Miami. The Coast Guard said the 37-year-old man fell overboard about 30 miles northwest of Cuba. A Coast Guard cutter and airplane are searching for the man. The Carnival Victory was returning to Miami from a four-day Caribbean cruise.
