Rocky the owl has been returned to the wild. The tiny Saw-whet owl was found stuck inside this year’s Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center in 30 Rock last week, and thanks to some wonderful environmentalists, he’s now out. Rockefeller, or “Rocky” for short, became stuck inside the 75-foot-tall tree, and he was found and named by a worker setting up the tree Nov. 16, according to the Associated Press. Rocky, a female owl, was taken to Ravensbeard Wildlife Center in the Hudson Valley town of Saugerties to be nursed back to health. A video of Rocky taking flight back into the wild was posted on the Ravensbeard Wildlife Center’s Facebook page.

His determination to move forward led him to an organization called CAMO which stands for Canines Assisting Military Operatives. Founder and chief Trainer Mike Lorraine works with shelter dogs who fit the temperament to become a service animal and pairs them with veterans in need at no cost. Training these dogs to do everything from turning on a light to picking up keys and coins actually starts with chickens. Lorraine works with the birds first to see what techniques will create the desired response before adopting that approach when training a service dog. So far CAMO has placed 30 dogs with veterans in need.

ISLAMORADA, Fla. – An orphaned infant manatee was rescued Saturday after being spotted by homeowners that there was something beneath underwater rocks along their dock. The Dolphin Research Center’s (DRC) Manatee Rescue Team and volunteers with Dolphins Plus Marine Mammal Responder unit assisted the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Committee to corral the calf with netting. They then successfully scooped the manatee from the water using a large hoop net. They did not know why the calf separated from her mom. On Sunday afternoon, a Seaquarium veterinarian said the manatee was in “guarded condition.”After evaluation and treatment, she was placed in a pool with an older orphaned female manatee.
