FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. Broward College President Gregory Haile recommended the end of the public colleges athletic program. In his 2020-21 budget proposal, he is asking The Broward College District Board of Trustees to discontinue the program, according to a statement released on Friday. The program includes 147 student-athletes and the cost per athlete is $11,009 annually, according to Jodi Brown-Lindo, a spokesperson for the college. If the board approves the budget, the college would continue to support scholarship athletes for an additional year. The next meeting is scheduled for June 30th.

Body found near basketball courts at Broward College North Campus

COCONUT CREEK, Fla. – A body was found Friday afternoon at Broward College's North Campus in Coconut Creek, authorities said. Coconut Creek Fire Rescue officials said the body was discovered near basketball courts, along a fence that is near the Turnpike. Sky 10 was above the scene shortly before 1:30 p.m. as police placed a tent over the body while they investigated. A cause of death was not immediately known, but authorities believe the manner of death was suicide. It's unclear whether the victim was a student at the college.
