“We are all going to move forward together because there is no time to waste,” Levine Cava said. There are about 120,000 septic tanks in Miami-Dade. “We need a path forward that doesn’t unfairly saddle our homeowners with too much of the cost,” Levine Cava said. FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nicole Perez, Local 10 News’ evening anchor, said Monday that she and her husband, Roy Ramos, are feeling much better. Ramos, a Local 10 News reporter, said there were only a lingering cough and fatigue leftover from his COVID-19 induced pneumonia. Perez said she no longer feels nausea, but she still hasn’t recovered her sense of taste or smell. Ramos and Perez are still far from being able to return to work. Nicole, Ramos, Betty Davis, Local 10 News chief meteorologist, and Louis Aguirre, a Local 10 News anchor, are among the nine Local 10 News employees who were recently diagnosed with COVID-19.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. Betty Davis, the WPLG-Local 10 News chief meteorologist, remained hospitalized on Tuesday while she undergoes treatment for COVID-19. Davis is among the ten Local 10 News employees who tested positive for the coronavirus. Louis Aguirre, a Local 10 News anchor, did not suffer any symptoms, and he has tested negative three times. Nicole Perez, Local 10 News evening anchor, and her husband, Roy Ramos, a Local 10 News reporter, both suffered symptoms but both have been recovering. I actually felt well enough to get on my (stationary) bike, Perez said, adding it was nice to work a little bit and push myself a little bit.

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. Local 10 chief certified meteorologist Betty Davis is among those on our staff fighting COVID-19. Betty is one of nine Local 10 employees who tested positive last week. As we told you last week, Louis was feeling no symptoms at all and was convinced his positive test was wrong. Last Wednesday, Local 10 tested 97 employees and family members after the initial nine employees were positive for the virus. Two family members tested positive, and they have gone into quarantine.

Most recently, the CDC added nausea, diarrhea, congestion, and a runny nose to the official list of 11 possible symptoms. Some believe there is a low risk of stroke among COVID-19 patients that requires more research.

HIALEAH, Fla. At the end of March, just as the coronavirus pandemic was gaining a foothold in South Florida, Jennifer Ross-Comptis learned that Larkin Community Hospital was creating a team of volunteer contact tracers. Ross-Comptis is now part of more than 1,000 volunteer contact tracers with Larkin, heading up the ever growing Spanish-speaking team. That cultural connection provides a level of trust that allows the person whos being called to be open with the contact tracer, Larkin team leader Virginia Johnson said. After being diagnosed with the virus, Local 10s Louis Aguirre decided to volunteer his information to the contact tracing team. Despite the plethora of information the hospital has gathered so far, hospital officials say the state has not accepted any of its information submitted through its app.

MIAMI Renita Holmes, a longtime Miami activist, devoted her Sunday to defuse friction between law enforcement and Justice for George Floyd! protesters in Miami during the coronavirus pandemic. Reyes, a Miami District Commander, didnt know Holmes was an activist known at Miami City Hall. Holmes didnt know Reyes is a member of Troop K, which is separated into three districts: Orlando, West Palm Beach and Miami. She didnt know Reyes commands the troopers in Miami who protect the Florida Turnpike system. When Reyes approached her, Holmes said, Hurt people, hurt people. Holmes didnt know the trooper had recently lost his mother.

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – Local 10 is welcoming Louis Aguirre back to South Florida's No. Aguirre, who began his career in Miami and worked at Local 10 from 1988 to 1992, will return to the station to anchor the 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. newscasts. Aguirre was later hired by the Fox News Channel for the network's Fox and Friends morning show. “We are thrilled to welcome Louis back to South Florida, and back to WPLG, the station where his career began,” said WPLG President Bert Medina. Aguirre will return to Local 10 in September as he replaces Victor Oquendo, who is leaving the station to become a correspondent with ABC News.
