According to Battalion Chief Stephen Gollan, the firefighter was part of the six units that responded to the two-story building at 4617 El Mar Dr. The building is home to the Dee Jay Beach Resort, which is steps away from the beach. Gollan said no one else was injured in the fire, which remained under investigation Tuesday afternoon.

LAUDERDALE-BY-THE-SEA, Fla. – A woman who authorities believe was around 60 years old died Monday after being pulled from the water off Lauderdale-by-the-Sea. According to Lauderdale-by-the-Sea Fire Rescue spokesman Steve D’Oliveira, a group of snorkelers were in the water around 11 a.m. when the woman became separated from the group. D’Oliveira said the group headed to shore and realized the woman was no longer with them. The Austins then pulled the woman to shore where bystanders performed CPR before first responders arrived. It’s unclear whether the woman suffered a medical episode at the time she became separated from her group, D’Oliveira said.

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - Broward County Sheriff Gregory Tony said Thursday that arrests have been made in connection with the killing of a Coral Springs firefighter. Funeral services for firefighter Christopher Randazzo were just getting underway in Coral Springs when Tony made the announcement to those in attendance that four suspects had been identified, two were in custody and one had confessed to the killing. "I'm here to tell you that we have identified all four suspects; two are in custody," Tony said before the crowd erupted into applause. Randazzo was a firefighter and paramedic with the Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department. "It's such a relief for us that we're able to lay him to rest knowing that people will be brought to justice," Coral Springs spokeswoman Lynne Martzall said.
