Empanadas from Shelter, the latest New York-based restaurant to open in Wynwood. Straight from Williamsburg, Brooklyn comes Shelter, the latest New York-based restaurant and bar to open in Miami. Shelter, known for its pizzas, empanadas, cocktails, and Argentinian-inspired dishes, has been a staple to Williamsburg locals since first opening back in 2013. According to the Miami Herald, the restaurant’s Wynwood location will seat 160 people and will feature a wood-fired menu, as the restaurant is famous for its rustic, wood-fired pizzas. With an extensive cocktail, spirits, beer, and wine list, an array of empanadas, and, of course, artisan pizzas, this latest Wynwood opening only adds to the Magic City’s already flourishing culinary space.

MIAMI – Miami Mayor Francis Suarez held a news conference on Monday to announce the investors behind the Magic City Innovation District paid $3 million to the city’s Little Haiti Revitalization Trust. Neil Fairman, of Plaza Equity Partners, said it was the first payment in a $31 million commitment. The new 18-acre “campus-like” project is on the eastern side of Little Haiti. It will be built in phases to include 432 hotel rooms, 2,630 residential units, and commercial real estate. The construction of Magic City’s first residential tower is set to begin in 2022.

MIAMI, Fla. – The first mixed-use development of its kind, given its scale and scope, is filling a void in Miami, said the property’s developer. River Landing, on the banks of the Miami River, features a mix of apartments, retail, office space and restaurants. But the developer of River Landing said that the environment where this project exists is different for many reasons. River Landing is one of the few retail, office, and residential developments that are accessible by boat in Miami. The Mid River District Miami calls itself the Magic City’s newest creative and community hub.

RealtyHop's latest Housing Affordability Index ranks Miami second in the country, behind only Los Angeles, when it comes to being able to own a home. Combine Miami's average household income of $33,999, the lowest in the top 10, with a $499,000 average home price and you see how the city ended up where it did. The only other South Florida city in the top 100 was Hialeah, which ranked 11th.

MIAMI - They say anything can happen in Miami, and now it's true even when you're leaving the Magic City. A wild scene unfolded Sunday as an American Airlines flight prepared to depart Miami International Airport on its way to Los Angeles. Video taken by passengers on the flight shows Tiffany McLemore hitting her husband with a laptop following an argument between the two over him looking at other women. McLemore can be heard yelling and cursing at her husband while several flight attendants stand nearby monitoring the situation. McLemore then follows her husband down the aisle and hits him in the head and neck area with a laptop computer while asking whether she's still assaulting him.

"We used to think that the allure of Little Haiti was the fact that it's close to downtown, close to both airports and close to the beach. "If you sell your home in Little Haiti, you think that you're making a big deal, and it's only after you sell, and then you realize, 'Oh, I cannot buy anywhere else.'"
