Opponents of the technology fear the date of the release in the Florida Keys is getting closer, and they are not ready for the possible repercussions of the experiment. The fight over whether or not to release genetically modified mosquitoes in Monroe County has been going on for almost a decade. Wray, the executive director of the Florida Keys Environmental Coalition, said he doesn’t believe there is enough evidence to prove that the technology is safe. The public health efforts are so controversial the Florida Keys Mosquito Control District hired Chad Huff as the public education and information officer. Last month, Rep. Carlos Gimenez wrote a letter to the EPA requesting independent corroboration that no genetically modified female mosquitoes will be released.

MIAMI – A group of Jackson Health System doctors and nurses took a break on Tuesday to receive praise from Miami-Dade County commissioners in their chambers. He introduced a proclamation on Feb. 26 to declare March as Health Heroes month and presented it during the commission meeting. It has been a challenging year for the public health system, which had support from the federal government. According to The Florida Department of Health, 11,685 people have been hospitalized with COVID-19 in Miami-Dade, including 102 non-residents. MIAMI – Amid the anticipation of President Joe Biden’s new Cuba policy, a group that represents South Florida’s community of Cuban exiles met on Wednesday to discuss a proposal at the American Museum of the Cuban Diaspora in Miami’s Coral Way. “We need and we want, we demand a free Cuba,” Gimenez said. MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, along with Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber and City of Miami Mayor Francis Suarez held a news conference Friday morning to announce the release of the Resilient305 year-one strategy report. Resilient305 was a joint initiative created in 2016 to tackle a wide range of issues throughout the county, including sea level rise and affordable housing. “We’ve made important progress to safeguard our community from multiple impacts of climate change,” Levine Cava said. Under the Resilient305 initiative, former Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez said in 2019 that they were renewing their commitment to dump sand on the beach to replace the eroding shoreline, protecting Biscayne Bay and other projects. Miami Beach planted mangroves at parks to serve as a natural seawall and installed pumps to reduce flooding.

WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. and former Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez voted against a resolution calling on Vice President Mike Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove President Donald Trump from office. Gimenez released a statement late Tuesday night, saying that Congress should instead be “holding thorough investigations into the insurrection on Capitol Hill by domestic terrorists.”“I cannot earnestly support a non-binding resolution that would have no effect in getting us closer to the truth or help heal our nation,” Gimenez said. The Democratic-controlled House will begin proceedings Wednesday to impeach Trump for the second time in 13 months, with just days left in his term, as lawmakers seek to quickly punish him over last week’s deadly attack at the U.S. Capitol. A Capitol police officer died from injuries suffered in the riot, and police shot and killed a woman during the siege. Three other people died in what authorities said were medical emergencies.

Among those voting to decertify were Florida Senator Rick Scott and Miami Congressmen Mario Diaz-Balart and Carlos Gimenez. That attack changed some minds and changed how some members of Congress voted to reject or keep the electors from contested states on Wednesday. It’s not going to change the outcome but it’s going to send a message and it’s going to make a point. Voting to reject the electors was newly sworn-in Republican Congressman Carlos Gimenez of Miami. He said in a statement: “I have become convinced that the electors in some states were selected in an unconstitutional manner.
