Florida Keys man arrested for attempting to kidnap teenage girl
STOCK ISLAND, Fla. – A Florida Keys man was arrested Friday after allegedly trying to force a teenage girl into his vehicle. The victim told police that Hamley then exited his gold Honda CR-V and tried to force her into the vehicle. After reviewing surveillance footage, deputies found that the driver matched the description of the suspect provided by the victim. A be-on-the-lookout was put out by deputies, and soon the vehicle was located in the parking lot of the Perry Hotel. The victim identified Hamley as the man who attacked her, and he was arrested.
Second of two Florida Keys brothers arrested in Mexico for fatal Stock Island shooting
STOCK ISLAND, Fla. – Authorities in northern Mexico apprehended a suspect from the Florida Keys wanted for a fatal shooting. He is the second of two brothers to be arrested in connection to the shooting that took place on June 15 on Stock Island. 35-year-old Jose Louis Gomez was taken into custody in July, also in northern Mexico. Key West fruit vendor turns sour on competition, threatens to shoot him
STOCK ISLAND, Fla. – A dispute over juice prices in Key West turned into one fruit vendor being taken to jail after threatening to shoot another vendor. Torres Quinones was selling his juice on 5th Street for $3 while the competition was selling his for $2. Torres Quinones demanded that the other vendor raise his sugarcane juice price to $3, but the man said he declined. The video showed Torres Quinones arguing in Spanish with the other vendor. The victim said Torres Quinones said that he would “fire every bullet” into the victim.
Cops search for brothers suspected in Florida Keys shootings
STOCK ISLAND, Fla. Monroe County Sheriffs Office detectives are looking for two brothers believed to be involved in a fatal shooting Monday in Stock Island. The sheriffs office says they are wanted on $1.6 million bail and should be considered armed and dangerous. Detectives believe the shootings of Jose Manuel Clemente, 45, and Iliecer Noa, 43, both of Stock Island, were targeted hits. A witness reported hearing the men argue over a Mercedes vehicle, according to the sheriffs office. Florida Keys man urinated in public and then yelled racial slurs at a couple that saw him, cops say
STOCK ISLAND, Fla. A man seen exposing himself and urinating in public shouted racial slurs at a couple who spotted him, the Monroe County Sheriffs Office says. Eric John Vanbuskirk, 58 of Stock Island, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct Sunday night. A man and a woman told deputies they were in their driveway when they saw a man later identified as Vanbuskirk with his pants down, urinating through a chain-link fence that separates their property from a neighbors. The man in the car beeped his horn to notify Vanbuskirk that he was in plain view, at which point Vanbuskirk responded by yelling racial slurs at the couple, according to the Sheriffs Office. After a deputy arrived, Vanbuskirk yelled sexual slurs at a neighboring property owner who wanted him removed.
Man, 19, found with stolen gun, oxycodone pill during traffic stop, deputies say
Monroe County Sheriff's OfficeSTOCK ISLAND, Fla. - A Key West man was arrested Wednesday night after he was found with a stolen gun and an oxycodone pill during a traffic stop on Key Haven Road on Stock Island, authorities said. Abraham Amado Acosta, 19, was arrested on charges of possessing a stolen firearm, carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, driving with a suspended license and possession of a pill without a prescription. Linhardt said Traffic Enforcement Unit Deputy Edward Swogger discovered Acosta's driver's license had been suspended in March for failure to pay previous traffic citations and took him into custody. While searching Acosta's car, the deputy found a loaded Glock 43 handgun under the front passenger seat and one oxycodone pill in the sunglasses holder in the headliner, Linhardt said. Authorities said the gun had been reported stolen in July from a home on Summerland Key.
