MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Authorities are getting ride-out ready ahead of the weekend before Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. “The goal is to prevent unnecessary delays, injuries and property damage associated with reckless driver behavior,” Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Florida law also requires ATV riders to wear over-the-ankle boots, eye protection and a safety helmet. “We will be doing a high visibility patrol and we will be doing enforcement,” Miami-Dade Police Director Alfredo “Freddy” Ramirez said. MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A crime crackdown in Miami Beach is all thanks to a new task force. It’s a group of two dozen officers that have either cited or put behind bars hundreds of people for breaking the law in Miami Beach. Officer Ernesto Rodriguez with the Miami Beach Police Department said it’s a special group of uniformed, undercover and K9 officers and detectives aggressively cracking down on crime, including drinking and driving in the Art Deco cultural district of Miami Beach. “Dangerous folks who we’ve been able to prevent even more serious crimes from occurring,” said Officer Rodriguez. This special task force will keep hitting the streets for at least two more weeks.

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – A large police presence was spotted early Friday morning inside a Pompano Beach neighborhood, which authorities said was the result of a carjacking that occurred earlier in Boca Raton. According to Broward Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Carey Codd, Broward Regional Communications received a call shortly before 1 a.m. regarding a dark-colored Cadillac that had been stolen during a carjacking in Boca Raton. Codd said deputies tracked the vehicle, which came to a stop in the 1100 block of Northwest 18th Drive in Pompano Beach. uhh!’”Codd said another man, identified as Ariel Collazo, 23, of Tamarac, was found dead inside the stolen car from an apparent gunshot wound. One of the women later told Wright that the man who died was her nephew.

MIAMI – Streets were swarmed in downtown Miami on Saturday and reckless wheelies were being popped on I-95 Sunday. The event happens every year on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which is on Monday. Despite a stern warning from law enforcement, more than 100 riders sped down the streets of Miami, weaving in and out of traffic dangerously as passing drivers did their best to avoid them. “I don’t think they should be doing that because especially there is a lot of traffic down here,” Hernandez said. Law enforcement officials said they will hold accountable anybody making the streets unsafe and are discouraging riders from taking to roadways this weekend, or else they could be arrested and their vehicles impounded.
