Flood warning to remain in effect for Fort Lauderdale metro area until 8 a.m., Friday
A risk of both severe weather and flooding remained in South Florida on Thursday evening, The National Weather Service warned while asking the public to exercise caution, especially in areas that are saturated from prior rainfall and residual flooding.
Sam is now a hurricane and is forecast to rapidly strengthen
Sam has continued to strengthen faster than predicted. It has reached hurricane strength and has developed a classic shape on the satellite as it tracks toward the Caribbean islands. It’s not moving as fast as many storms do in that part of the ocean, and is forecast to slow down over the warm Atlantic waters.

‘Kelly and Ryan’ making (virtual) visit to Miami on Monday
With travel not an option right now for many Americans, hosts Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest and taking their TV audience on a “virtual road trip” next week — and the first stop is right here in Miami. Part of their visit will include conversations with Local 10′s Chief Certified Meteorologist Betty Davis and chef Michelle Bernstein from SoFlo Taste. There will also be a performance of “El Cambio” by CHESCA, live from Miami. It airs at 10 a.m. Monday, right after Local 10 News at 9 a.m.Ripa and Seacrest discussed their upcoming visit with Local 10 anchor Jacey Birch, which you can watch in the video at the top of this page. In an effort to bring sunshine to people across the country, “Live with Kelly and Ryan” will also be paying virtual visits to Austin, San Juan, Phoenix and Palm Springs for the rest of next week.
Heavy rain brings flash floods to parts of Miami-Dade and Broward, causing mess for daily commuters
Pouring rain drenched Miami for several hours, starting around 3 p.m. Tuesday. Doppler radar estimates show four to six inches of rain fell in and around Miami, Miami Beach and Surfside. After a day full of rain on Miami Beach, cars still navigated waterlogged roads for their evening commute. Local 10 Chief Certified Meteorologist Betty Davis says a slow-moving cold front is interacting with the warm, moist air over South Florida. The front still will be in the vicinity of South Florida and the Keys overnight Tuesday into Wednesday.
South Florida braces for coldest night of the year
The stage is set for Miami-Dade and Broward counties to see the coldest temperatures so far this winter season. Temperatures dropped to the 40s Wednesday morning across South Florida and are only expected to warm up slightly with highs in the mid-60s throughout the day. They slow down or become immobile when temperatures drop into the 40s. They may fall from trees but they are not dead.”The cold weather comes to an end Friday. Seasonable temperatures return with lows near 60 degrees and highs in the upper 70s across South Florida.
Strong winds expected to bring South Florida’s coldest weather of 2021
“The combination of strong winds and a few clouds make forecasting low temperatures tricky, particularly for South Florida,” Chief Certified Meteorologist Betty Davis said. Tuesday morning’s low temperatures may not be the coolest so far this winter season. So far this winter, the coldest temperature Miami has recorded is 47 degrees on Dec. 26. For perspective, the normal low temperature for Miami in early February is 61 degrees. Just as low temperatures will be below average for much of the week, so will high temperatures.
South Florida’s chilly weather expected to get even colder
PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – South Florida is on track to see its coldest temperatures since January. Miami reported a low temperature of 55 degrees Tuesday and a high of only 64 degrees. That 64 degrees tied the record low maximum temperature for the date, which dated all the way back to 1930. High temperatures Wednesday and Thursday will be about 10 degrees cooler than normal, while low temperatures will be almost 20 degrees cooler than normal. “It will not be surprising to see some inland neighborhoods dipping to the low 40s.

Local 10’s Betty Davis shares the story of her battle against coronavirus
COOPER CITY, Fla. – Throughout her long career as a meteorologist, Betty Davis has prepared for hurricanes, tornados, and flash floods. But there was no way she could have prepared for what the coronavirus pandemic would bring. Florida’s number of coronavirus cases started to increase in March. But despite taking every precaution, Davis tested positive for the coronavirus in early July. Davis recently donated her plasma for the second time and said she’s feeling stronger every day.

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – There is “sloppy, sloppy weather” in the South Florida forecast as Tropical Depression Eta moves north, Local 10 Chief Certified Meteorologist Betty Davis says. Eta is the storm that slammed Nicaragua as a Category 4 hurricane on Tuesday before weakening to now a depression. Local 10s Betty Davis returns to work after battling coronavirus
PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. Local 10 chief certified meteorologist Betty Davis returned to work Monday after battling COVID-19, and she says she is happy to be getting back to doing the job that I love.Im feeling OK today, Davis said. It really is one of those day to day things. I feel good today. There are moments where I dont feel so good, but ultimately Im a lot better than I was certainly at the beginning of all this.Davis was diagnosed with COVID-19 at the beginning of July. I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart, Betty said.

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. Local 10 chief certified meteorologist Betty Davis says there have been times during her battle with COVID-19 that she wasnt sure she would survive it. For me, you wake up and youre thinking, This is it, Im turning the corner, Davis said. Davis spoke about the uncertainty that comes with the novel coronavirus, and how it can affect people so differently. Initially, I thought I could fight this off at home, and then before you know it youre in the hospital. My energy level has been good, so Im hoping that is becoming more and more like normal.
Local 10 News coronavirus outbreak: Chief meteorologist remains hospitalized
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. Betty Davis, the WPLG-Local 10 News chief meteorologist, remained hospitalized on Tuesday while she undergoes treatment for COVID-19. Davis is among the ten Local 10 News employees who tested positive for the coronavirus. Louis Aguirre, a Local 10 News anchor, did not suffer any symptoms, and he has tested negative three times. Nicole Perez, Local 10 News evening anchor, and her husband, Roy Ramos, a Local 10 News reporter, both suffered symptoms but both have been recovering. I actually felt well enough to get on my (stationary) bike, Perez said, adding it was nice to work a little bit and push myself a little bit.
Local 10 meteorologist Betty Davis reveals shes battling coronavirus
PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. Local 10 chief certified meteorologist Betty Davis is among those on our staff fighting COVID-19. Betty is one of nine Local 10 employees who tested positive last week. As we told you last week, Louis was feeling no symptoms at all and was convinced his positive test was wrong. Last Wednesday, Local 10 tested 97 employees and family members after the initial nine employees were positive for the virus. Two family members tested positive, and they have gone into quarantine.
