TYLER VAN DYKE

Takeaways from Miami football’s spring game

With this new preview of what Canes fans can expect to see come September, here are some key takeaways to consider after the conclusion of Miami’s 2022 spring game. Backup quarterback Jake Garcia didn’t appear as a backupBehind Van Dyke was sophomore Jake Garcia, who has consistently proved to be a strong backup in the current tandem with Van Dyke. Parrish Jr.’s performance in the spring game will most definitely bring competition in a much deeper RB room in 2022. Restrepo led all receivers in both catches and receiving yards, putting up six catches and notching 60 receiving yards in the spring game. With this defensive performance, Addae as well as Steele could most definitely be looking to develop a ballhawk-style coverage for the Miami secondary.

At the 8:37 minutes mark of the first quarter, Miami trailed Duke after a 94-yard kickoff return by Blue Devils sophomore Jaylen Stinson. After, it was all Miami, out-gaining Duke by over 400 yards, and closing its regular season with a 47-10 win at Wallace Wade Stadium in Durham, North Carolina. “Duke came out in a totally different defense that we went through in film,” Hurricanes head coach Manny Diaz said. Miami looks to finish regular season strong against struggling Duke

After a roller coaster of a season filled with a fair share of ups and downs, Miami is looking to end its regular season on a high note when it travels to Durham, North Carolina to face Duke. “We’ve got to make sure we finish the regular season,” Hurricanes head coach Manny Diaz said. Given that this is both teams’ final regular season game and that Duke is ineligible for postseason play, Diaz expects the Blue Devils (3-8, 0-7 ACC) to play harder than usual. The Blue Devils will be lead on offense by senior running back Mateo Durant, who ranks second in the ACC in total rushing yards with 1173 yards. The Canes have a star running back of their own in freshman Jaylan Knighton, who will look to attack Duke’s poor rushing defense — charted 116th nationally in rushing yards allowed per game.

There’s still a chance: Miami’s very realistic path to winning the ACC championship

The Canes are well aware that if they keep playing well they could earn themselves a trip to Charlotte to play in the ACC championship game.
