On Saturday, 20-year-old surfer Emily Comfort was bitten on her left hand and wrist, according to Volusia County Beach Safety. Less than 24 hours after the first two bites, 51-year-old Peter Bourbeau was standing in knee-deep water when his right foot was bitten by what he described as a 4-foot-shark, Volusia County Beach Safety said. According to the International Shark Attack File, Volusia County has recorded 303 shark attacks -- the most in the United States -- since 1882. The second closest is Brevard County, Florida, with 147. Of the 1,441 confirmed unprovoked shark attacks in the United States since 1837, Florida dominates the list, with 828 recorded attacks.

Volusia County Beach safety officials told news outlets the two bites occurred Saturday afternoon at New Smyrna Beach. A short time later, a 21-year-old man was bitten on his right foot and was treated at the scene. In Miami-Dade County, a man was injured while fishing off Key Biscayne. The University of Floridas International Shark Attack file says there have been 17 suspected shark bites involving humans in the state this year.

(CNN) - Some beachgoers frolicking in the Florida surf were shocked to find out that sharks were swimming just a few feet away. Fran Kumpf told CNN affiliate WESH that she saw a shark that appeared to be about 5 feet long on Monday at Daytona Beach. "These particular ones, they would never seek out people, but they might accidentally bite a person if they thought it was a bait fish," Naylor said. Tammy Malphurs told CNN. Volusia County, which includes Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Beach, leads the US in shark bites.
