MIAMI – Miami Mayor Francis Suarez held a news conference on Monday to announce the investors behind the Magic City Innovation District paid $3 million to the city’s Little Haiti Revitalization Trust. Neil Fairman, of Plaza Equity Partners, said it was the first payment in a $31 million commitment. The new 18-acre ā€œcampus-likeā€ project is on the eastern side of Little Haiti. It will be built in phases to include 432 hotel rooms, 2,630 residential units, and commercial real estate. The construction of Magic City’s first residential tower is set to begin in 2022.

MIAMI – There is a push to preserve history in one of Miami’s most historically black neighborhoods. As a Miami historian and a longtime activist, she spearheaded the charge to erect brand new markers, commemorating three historically black communities in Lemon City, now known as Little Haiti. ā€œIt is the people from Lemon City who, with a machete and the strength of their backs, cleared the land to make Miami what it is today. AdThe city even hired a film crew to record a message that will be shown at this week’s city commission meeting to commemorate Black History Month. Despite the time it took just to put the markers in place, Pinkney believes the end result will have an impact for generations.
