Man in Miami rough arrest video suffered seizure, relatives say
MIAMI โ A man who was injured during an arrest on Sunday in Miami was back in the hospital on Monday after he suffered a seizure, his relatives said. The Miami Police Department released an arrest form identifying Leskeil Shakeil Richards, a fugitive from Broward County, as the subject of a rough arrest video in Miamiโs Liberty City. Officers reported Richards underwent a medical check-up on Sunday at Jackson Memorial Hospital before officers took him to jail, according to the arrest report. AdIesha Richards did not come to a complete traffic stop at Northwest 22nd Avenue, Sevilla reported. Sevilla also reported Leskeil Richards had moved to the back seat and he was โpretendingโ to be asleep.

MIAMI, Fla. โ Top brass at the Miami Police Department said they are looking into an incident that a woman caught on cellphone video. Video captured a man being punched in the face from a city of Miami police officer while physically restrained during a traffic stop. The video showed another city of Miami officer, who Milton said, kicked the man. Milton told Local 10 News that she and her mother were driving from the funeral of her aunt who had passed away from COVID-19 when they saw the commotion. She told Local 10 News that when police saw her recording, they told her she would be cited for stopping traffic.

Miamiโs Village (Free)dge aims to grow into fully operational food bank
MIAMI โ Amid the growing need during the coronavirus pandemic, Sherina Jones said Miamiโs Village (Free)dge is transitioning from running a free community fridge to becoming a fully operational food bank and pantry. The project started in August with a refrigerator at Northwest Seventh Avenue and Northwest 55th Street, just outside of Roots Collective Black House. The project, which has other operational versions around the country, has been resilient. Jones, who works as an aesthetician, said she and the volunteers are not giving up on the project. โThe same thing I do at my business โ caring, service, and making sure people feel good โ itโs still in that same category,โ Jones said about her work with the Village (Free)dge.
Minorities receiving far less coronavirus vaccine than rest of the population despite being more at-risk
MIAMI โ The coronavirus vaccine rollout in Florida has been far from smooth. Data shows minorities are most at-risk but vaccination sites in those underserved communities are hard to come by. In Miami-Dade County just 10,000 Black people have been vaccinated compared to 106,000 White people. In Broward County nearly 12,000 Blacks have gotten a shot, but far from the nearly 90,000 Whites. Part access to inoculation sites and part skepticism among minorities from past government vaccine practices.

The parade happened on Friday, but you will only be able to watch it online and on television on Local 10 and Local10.com. If you want to tune in, weโll be airing it Jan. 18 at 1 p.m. on Local10.com. โFirst of all, itโs creativity over everything else and is a way to bring a little bit of normal into our new normal,โ she said.
After afternoon drive-by, residents in Liberty City neighborhood say violence needs to stop
People living in the Liberty City neighborhood recounted the terrifying moments on Saturday when someone began firing a high-capacity rifle out of a car in broad daylight. โHe was just laying there in a pool of blood.โOne man who only identified himself as K.K. Boom.โAnd he added that he was tired of all the violence in the neighborhood. Miami police wonโt say more about the other victims yet, but neighbors said at least one of them was a young girl. Crime scene techs spent hours in the area putting down more than 70 evidence markers where shell casings were laying on the street.

Police are investigating a shooting in Northwest Miami DadeMIAMI โ A man was killed during a shooting on Thursday in Miamiโs Liberty City neighborhood, police said. After Shot Spotter technology detected an afternoon shooting, officers responded to the area of Northwest 62nd Street and Northwest 15th Avenue. Officers found a man had been shot near the Liberty Square public housing complex, also known as the Pork & Beans housing projects. Miami Fire Rescue personnel declared him dead at the scene. Detectives are asking anyone with information about the fatal shooting to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
Florida reports 11,682 new coronavirus cases Saturday, lower than past 2 days

The number of new cases is lower than the past two days where the state reported 13,000 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, just shy of the 13,148 cases added a day earlier. Meanwhile, Miami-Dade Countyโs troublesome trend is another day of reporting more than 2,000 cases, while Broward reported more than 1,000 new daily cases. The state has now reported 1,193,165 coronavirus cases since the pandemic began and 20,473 resident deaths, according to the health department. Latest totalsWorldwide, the number of COVID-19 cases reported is more than 76 million.

The U.S. recorded 3,124 deaths Wednesday, the highest one-day total yet, according to Johns Hopkins University. Up until last week, the peak was 2,603 deaths on April 15, when New York City was the epicenter of the nationโs outbreak. Wednesday's toll eclipsed American deaths on the opening day of the Normandy invasion during World War II: 2,500, out of some 4,400 Allied dead.
