NORTHEAST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. – A police pursuit that began near Miami Shores ended on a ramp on Interstate 95 in Northeast Miami-Dade late Wednesday afternoon after a Miami-Dade police vehicle collided with a stolen pickup truck. According to Miami-Dade police, the pursuit began at 2:35 p.m. when detectives spotted a stolen pickup truck in the area of Northwest Seventh Avenue and 81st Street. The driver exited the northbound I-95 ramp at Northwest 103rd Street, where he then attempted to make an illegal U-turn on the ramp, according to MDPD. An officer’s vehicle went in with a dramatic pit maneuver, colliding head-on with the pickup truck and forcing the suspect behind the wheel to stop. The truck was quickly surrounded by officers with guns drawn and the suspect was placed into custody.

EL PORTAL, Fla. – A pickup truck was pulled from a canal in El Portal late Tuesday afternoon. Family members confirmed to Local 10 that 82-year-old Mernier Sainvil was found dead inside the truck. The yellow Ford pickup truck matched a description of the truck police said was being driven by Sainvil the last time he was seen on Friday. Police has yet to confirm the identity of the person found inside the truck. Family members were concerned when Sainvil, who is currently receiving dialysis, missed his last treatment.

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – A man was hit by a train and killed after running from the scene of a domestic violence incident Tuesday morning in Miami Shores, police say. According to Miami-Dade police, the 23-year-old man and his girlfriend were at a store on Biscayne Boulevard, near NE 90th Street, when he punched her. Police say they tried to talk to the man, but he ran away and, not realizing a southbound train was coming, was struck. It is unknown whether the train was a passenger train or a freight train because it kept going, police say. Yellow crime scene tape has blocked the area around the train tracks for hours Tuesday as police carry out their investigation.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Darius Lawshea, the well-known coach of the Miami Gardens Xpress track club, is already in jail facing charges of allegedly raping and molesting two young girls. On Wednesday, more charges were filed after two more young women stepped forward accusing Lawshea of sexually abusing them as teenagers. It’s also been revealed that a Miami police officer might have accused him of inappropriate actions several years ago. The other case is from Miami Gardens in 2012. MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – A well-known youth track coach was arrested by Miami Gardens police on Sunday, and now Local 10 News is learning he is under investigation by at least one other police department in South Florida. Darius Lawshea, better known as “Coach D,” runs the Miami Gardens Xpress track club and is facing charges of allegedly raping one girl and molesting another. Miami Gardens police, however, did charge Lawshea with allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl 10 years ago and molesting her younger sister last year. He appeared in front of a Miami-Dade judge Monday, and attorneys for the state said this wasn’t the first time Lawshea has been accused. But when her younger sister reported that he had molested her, she decided it was time to tell her story as well.

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Two women were jogging in Miami Shores before sunrise Thursday morning when they were struck by a vehicle, authorities confirmed. The accident occurred around 6:40 a.m. in the area of Northeast Sixth Avenue and 107th Terrace, near the entrance to Miami Country Day School. According to Zabaleta, a 27-year-old man was driving south on Northeast Sixth Avenue in a 2015 BMW 328i when he struck the joggers as they were trying to cross the street. Zabaleta said the man, who was proceeding through a green light at the time, remained at the scene. The crash is under investigation, and officers say it’s too soon to say whether speed was a factor.

Later that night came the actions that led to the charges against the Barry University student – named on the arrest form as Georg Simon Simon but on another incident report as Georg Simon Trompler. Simon Trompler, the victim and another student, identified as a witness, went to the victim’s dormitory room last Saturday night. The witness told police Simon Trompler did leave to go to his own dorm room across the hall. The victim told police that her door was unlocked, but closed, and she had not invited the man to return. Scared, she said, she then ran to a friend’s dorm room.

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – A Miami Shores family was doing some landscaping in their backyard when they found an old military device that could date all the way back to the Civil War. Police evacuated the area as a precaution Monday afternoon, and the Miami-Dade Bomb Squad responded to check out the cylindrical shell. “The bomb squad contacted the military who responded and indicated that it is a very old, possible Civil War-era device,” said Lt. David Golt of the Miami Shores Police Department. “The military has removed the device. There was no threat to the community.”This old military device was found in the yard of a Miami Shores man.

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Miami Shores police are searching for a man who they said stole a woman’s purse from her car and then went shopping with her credit card at a liquor store. Police said the thief smashed the car window and stole the purse that was on the floorboard. He was then captured on surveillance video at the Liquor Mart at 11300 NW Seventh Ave.Police said he used the victim’s credit card to buy $202.97 worth of liquor. MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Investigators are trying to figure out how the wife of a veteran City of Miami officer became trapped inside his police SUV. She died after possibly being trapped inside that vehicle for several hours, police said. Miami police confirm Officer Aristides Paulino was assigned to the SUV that Paulino died inside. Neighbors said Officer Paulino typically parked on the side of his Miami Shores home. At some point after his shift, his wife went out to the back of that police SUV and got trapped inside.

Sky 10 was above the 9600 block of North Bayshore Drive shortly after 2:30 p.m. as police blocked off the area. A body appeared to be face-down in the water near shore. Neighbors living near the shooting scene told Local 10 News reporter Saira Anwer that they were awakened by multiple gunshots shortly before 2 a.m.Miami-Dade police spokesman Angel Rodriguez confirmed that a woman had been fatally shot inside the Nissan. Her brother told Local 10 that she did not live at the location she was killed, saying she lived 50 blocks away.

MIAMI – A 15-year-old girl was shot in the head early Tuesday morning in Miami, police said. Family members have identified her as Arya Gray, and say the girl has died. It took police over 12 hours to process the scene, and they said it may have been an accidental shooting. The girl’s family said they can’t comprehend this and want to know where the gun came from. “(She was a) very peaceful person, she loved to be around her family, her friends, her brother and sister, and her sister actually witnessed everything -- witnessed her take her last breath.”Family members say 15-year-old Arya Gray (pictured) was shot in the head and killed.

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – A Barry University student was arrested Monday after a gun was found inside his dorm room, authorities said. According to his arrest report, a resident assistant at the university in Miami Shores saw multiple people who were not students at the dorms on Monday. Only students and employees are currently permitted on campus because of the COVID-19 outbreak. Police said the resident coordinator and an officer went to Donald Preston Brown’s dorm room and found three people there who were not students. The resident coordinator ordered the people to leave the property and searched the room, ultimately finding a gun underneath a blanket on top of Brown’s bed, the arrest report stated.

He was caught on surveillance cameras at seven different locations across the north end of Miami-Dade County, investigators said Thursday. MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – A man wearing a Jordan hoodie and a Miami Heat hat stole an iPhone Thursday from a Sprint store in Miami Shores, authorities said. The incident was reported just before 6 p.m. at the Sprint store at 9400 NE Second Ave. According to Miami Shores police, the man was captured on surveillance video approaching an iPhone display case, cutting the security cables to one of the phones and running out of the store with the item. Responding officers searched the area but did not find the thief, authorities said. MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. - Police officers continue to search for a man who crashed a stolen vehicle and was able to evade officers. Officers pursued the driver of the vehicle, a gray Nissan, with lights and sirens on after running plates and determining the car was reported stolen, officers said. A short time later, the car thief crashed the vehicle into a parked black Cadillac on Northeast 98th Street and fled on foot in a Miami Shores neighborhood, officers said. Following the crash, officers established a two-block perimeter at Northeast 2nd Avenue and Northeast 98th Street and brought in K-9 units. The officers have recovered the vehicle while the search for the thief continues.

According to authorities, the coyote was last seen Monday on Northwest 92nd Street at First Avenue. El Portal resident Jessica Sirmans told Local 10 News reporter Janine Stanwood that her husband saw the coyote while taking their dog for a walk. Sirmans said her family has lived in the area for eight months and has seen animals like raccoons and possums, but never a coyote.
