David Golt said it’s unclear whether Mashack has money to purchase food or gasoline. According to Miami-Dade police, the pursuit began at 2:35 p.m. when detectives spotted a stolen pickup truck in the area of Northwest Seventh Avenue and 81st Street. The driver exited the northbound I-95 ramp at Northwest 103rd Street, where he then attempted to make an illegal U-turn on the ramp, according to MDPD. An officer’s vehicle went in with a dramatic pit maneuver, colliding head-on with the pickup truck and forcing the suspect behind the wheel to stop. The truck was quickly surrounded by officers with guns drawn and the suspect was placed into custody.

The accident occurred around 6:40 a.m. in the area of Northeast Sixth Avenue and 107th Terrace, near the entrance to Miami Country Day School. According to Zabaleta, a 27-year-old man was driving south on Northeast Sixth Avenue in a 2015 BMW 328i when he struck the joggers as they were trying to cross the street. Zabaleta said the man, who was proceeding through a green light at the time, remained at the scene. The crash is under investigation, and officers say it’s too soon to say whether speed was a factor.

A short time later, the car thief crashed the vehicle into a parked black Cadillac on Northeast 98th Street and fled on foot in a Miami Shores neighborhood, officers said.
