Miami Beach police said Marvin Miguel Bravo, 28 of Doral, was found along the 1600 block of Bay Road on Thursday morning. “He initially fled from officers but with the help of K9 was ultimately apprehended,” the department said in a tweet. This is a man that we need to take off the streets,” Officer Ernesto Rodriguez of the Miami Beach Police Department said. Bravo, who was on probation, faces multiple charges, including burglary with assault or battery.

Officers were dealing with large crowds at about 9:30 p.m. in the area of 11th Street and Collins Avenue. Police officers stand on Thursday evening at the intersection of 11th Street and Collins Avenue. Despite the coronavirus pandemic, police officers are facing larger crowds during Spring Break season which ends on April 12th. Police officers and code enforcement officers are mostly focused on the area of Fifth and 16th Streets, between Ocean Drive and Washington Avenue.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A violent assault at a Miami Beach hotel has led to a Pennsylvania man’s arrest. According to Miami Beach police, the manager of the Rivera Hotel on South Beach was in a back room when a man, who had his head covered with a towel, barged in. The suspect, identified as Tehrron Greene, punched the manager and slammed him against the wall before continuing the relentless beating. Police said Greene was visiting South Florida with two others who had checked into the hotel. Greene initially refused to speak to detectives, who also reached out to his mother, according to Miami Beach police spokesman Ernesto Rodriguez.

“This area is known by Miami Beach residents as a troublesome area,” said Officer Ernesto Rodriguez, a spokesman for the department. On Feb. 17, a 23-year-old victim of human trafficking that was trapped in the area called 911 to ask for help just before a severe beating. Officers identified the suspects as Jason Rivera, Luis Delgado-Hernandez, David Romero, Alberto Figueroa, Carlos Colon, Damian Herrera, and David Vega. Vega, 37, Colon, 37, Romero, 38, Figueroa, 39, and Herrera, 48, face charges of cocaine possession. Rivera, Romero, Figueroa, and Herrera were facing charges of human trafficking.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – An English teacher who worked at the Hebrew Academy, a Jewish private school, lost her job after school administrators claimed her nude videos and photos were shared with a former male student who had since graduated. Miami Beach Police Officer Ernesto Rodriguez confirmed that police are investigating Alexandra Handwerger, also known as Alex Lowe, after the school reported her to police on Feb. 19. According to an incident report, school administrators received an anonymous email informing them that a teacher was sending inappropriate pictures. Washington Avenue was shut down for hours between Sixth and Ninth Streets as detectives combed through evidence. Miami Beach police said around 8:41 p.m., they received several 911 calls about a shooting along the 700 block of Washington Avenue. Officers responded and found a man wounded in front of The Licking restaurant at 754 Washington Avenue. One man is in stable condition and the other is listed in critical condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital, according to Ernesto Rodriguez, spokesman for the Miami Beach Police Department.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Officers are searching for the person who was behind the wheel of a white 2020 Kia Sorrento with Florida tag KCMD06 that they say was involved in a deadly hit-and-run crash Thursday night in Miami Beach. Detectives said the driver ran over a man who was crossing Fifth Street at Michigan Avenue around 7 p.m. and sped away — leaving South Beach westbound on the MacArthur Causeway. Detectives on Friday located the Kia Sorrento, which was being towed from Opa-locka to the Miami Beach Police Department so it could be swept for evidence. He added that police found the vehicle through a tip from Crime Stoppers, but they are still searching for whoever was driving it Thursday night. MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A crime crackdown in Miami Beach is all thanks to a new task force. It’s a group of two dozen officers that have either cited or put behind bars hundreds of people for breaking the law in Miami Beach. Officer Ernesto Rodriguez with the Miami Beach Police Department said it’s a special group of uniformed, undercover and K9 officers and detectives aggressively cracking down on crime, including drinking and driving in the Art Deco cultural district of Miami Beach. “Dangerous folks who we’ve been able to prevent even more serious crimes from occurring,” said Officer Rodriguez. This special task force will keep hitting the streets for at least two more weeks.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A 31-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the killing of a woman who was found dead over the weekend in Miami Beach, authorities announced Tuesday. According to Miami Beach police spokesman Ernesto Rodriguez, officers responded to an apartment unit at 659 Meridian Ave. shortly after 12:30 p.m. Saturday after receiving a 911 call from someone who discovered the body. Kim Bonanno is the building manager who, along with an exterminator, discovered the victim’s body. “Just worked and took care of him.”According to Chow’s arrest report, a blooding fingerprint was discovered on a disinfectant wipe container that was near the victim’s body. According to the report, Chow confessed to the killing, saying he used a kitchen knife to stab his mother as she laid in bed.

A more than 11-minute video captures cars doing donuts just before midnight at a busy intersection in South Beach on Friday. Traffic is blocked and, at one point, when the action stops momentarily, some cars try to get through. About 10 minutes into the video, the crowd can be seen running in different directions as the Miami Beach police try to make their way through what’s turned into a major traffic jam. Local 10 reached out to Miami Beach police spokesman Ernesto Rodriguez who said that MPBD is monitoring the actions of what they believe is a “car club,” which arranges reckless driving events throughout Miami-Dade County. MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – An investigation is ongoing after a man’s body was found in a Miami Beach canal. According to Miami Beach police, officers responded around 5 p.m. after receiving a call of a body in the water near Meridian Avenue and West 41st Street. “One of our officers was able to jump onto the boat of a nearby resident and they together canvased the area while the other officers were searching yard by yard,” said Miami Beach Police Officer Ernesto Rodriguez. MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Police are looking for a white BMW SUV as they investigate gunfire near the Fontainebleau Miami Beach on Wednesday morning. Miami Beach police say they received multiple 911 calls around 8:30 a.m. reporting that someone in that BMW fired several shots in the area of 44th Street and Collins Avenue. Nobody was seriously injured, Miami Beach Police public information officer Ernesto Rodriguez said. A white Mercedes that had been shot multiple times was located in North Beach near 74th Street. MIAMI BEACH, Fla. Erick Morillo, the internationally-known DJ who was facing a sexual battery charge, was found dead Tuesday at his Miami Beach home, police say. Officers received a 911 call at 10:42 a.m to 5660 La Gorce Drive. Miami Beach Police Public Information Officer Ernesto Rodriguez said that there were no apparent signs of foul play and that the cause of death will be determined by the Miami-Dade Medical Examiners Office. Witnesses saw investigators taking several bags of evidence out of the home, and Morillos body was removed Tuesday afternoon. Morillo was scheduled for a court hearing Friday.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. A normally bustling Ocean Drive was eerily quiet Saturday night thanks to a new curfew in place aimed at trying to stop the spread of COVID-19. The countywide curfew of 10 p.m. has been changed to 8 p.m. along South Beachs entertainment district. The move affects businesses and restaurants along Ocean Drive, Collins and Washington avenues between 5th and 16 streets. Miami Beach police officers were out patrolling the streets to make sure people are respecting the new early curfew. In the meantime, a new emergency order is in place in Broward County with a curfew there too, which went into effect Friday nightThe curfew is critical, said Broward County Mayor Dale Holness.

MIAMI A driver in a car stolen Wednesday in Miami Beachs Normandy Isles neighborhood crashed hours later in Miamis Upper East Side neighborhood, police said. According to Officer Ernesto Rodriguez, a spokesman for the Miami Beach Police Department, the driver stole the car after someone left the keys in the ignition about 1:10 p.m. at 960 Biarritz Dr.Officers provided tracking info from the scene to dispatch who shared the information with the surrounding jurisdictions, Rodriguez said. Miami police officers responded to Northeast 10th Avenue and Northeast 81st Street after the driver of the stolen car was involved in a crash. MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Detectives released surveillance video Monday showing a man brandishing a large chef’s butcher knife outside of Mango’s Tropical Cafe in South Beach. Ryan Simms died in a police-involved shooting on Saturday night in South Beach. Rodriguez said Mango’s Tropical Cafe reported Simms had threatened a club employee about 9 p.m.“It was not any yelling,” said David Wallack, of Mango’s Tropical Cafe. “It was really talking, but talking while waving a butcher knife.”Minutes later, witnesses said they heard 15 or 20 shots. During his three-year tenure with the department, Castillo, a former Florida Highway Patrol trooper, has received awards and commendations, Rodriguez said.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - A Miami Beach man was arrested Thursday after his wife was found dead inside their apartment. Russel Ewing, 53, faces a charge of second-degree murder. According to a Miami Beach police report, a friend went to the victim's Carlyle Avenue apartment to check on her and noticed a foul smell coming from inside. Police said he barricaded himself inside the apartment and refused to come out, prompting the SWAT team. According to the report, Ewing said he had been arguing with the victim about finances while he was taking kitchen knives from a bag.

Witnesses said they saw Wiggins arguing with a man moments before the shooting. "The same morning (of the shooting) we were able to recover the firearm used in the investigation," Rodriguez said.

The 75-year-old woman with platinum white hair stood near the stairs of the second-floor building's stairwell. Police officers and Miami Beach Fire Department personnel responded. The newly homeless woman faced several threats. With the ongoing king tide and the possibility of the hurricane's storm surge, Miami Beach is also preparing for the threat of flooding.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - A man was taken into custody Friday morning after multiple shots were fired in front of an apartment building in Miami Beach, authorities confirmed. "At 5:45 this morning we received two calls that shots were being fired near the 1500 block of Drexel Avenue," Miami Beach police spokesman Ernesto Rodriguez said. "Three of our officers arrived immediately to 1535 Drexel Avenue, where they located several spent shell casings outside of that building." A perimeter was established in the area as the Miami Beach Police Department's SWAT team and a hostage negotiator responded to the scene. Rodriguez said officers saw the suspect jump from a second-floor window in the rear of the building to the ground, at which time he was taken into custody.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - Miami Beach police are seeking to identify a woman who they believe might have information about a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred earlier this month. Rodriguez confirmed Tuesday that city surveillance cameras at 15th Street and Collins Avenue captured the woman walking with a man just after 8 p.m. Aug. 9. He said the duo were then captured on camera just after 1 a.m. Aug. 10 returning to a parking garage where the vehicle involved in the fatal crash was parked. "We are looking to identify this woman, who we believe may have information into this deadly hit-and-run." MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - Miami Beach police are searching for a man and a woman who they said worked together to rob a tourist earlier this week. Miami Beach police spokesman Ernesto Rodriguez said the victim, who is visiting from Poland, was on the way back to the apartment building where she's staying when a man approached her from behind and knocked her to the ground. "He attacked me from behind, so I was in shock completely, so I was not aware of what was happening. "We fell down on the ground, and I was trying to fight a little bit, but he was stronger." Rodriguez said the man's accomplice acted as a lookout as the man struck the victim several times before taking off with her cellphone, ID and $20 in cash.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - A motorcyclist was killed Tuesday night in a collision with a trolley in Miami Beach. The crash occurred just after 11 p.m. at 65th Street and Indian Creek Drive. Miami Beach police Officer Ernesto Rodriguez said it appeared the motorcycle was traveling north on Indian Creek Drive when it collided with a southbound trolley that was making a left turn. The motorcyclist was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center in Miami, where he was pronounced dead. His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - Miami Beach Police Department detectives are searching for the hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a cyclist on Saturday morning on the MacArthur Causeway. Detectives found the vehicle involved, but they have yet to release the description of the driver. Officer Ernesto Rodriguez said the driver was speeding on the westbound lane reserved for bicyclists. Rodriguez didn't release the name of the victim saying relatives had yet to be notified. Savage said officials with the city of Miami Beach, Miami-Dade County and the Florida Highway Patrol need to work on public safety.

Miami Beach Police Department detectives are searching for the driver who fled after the 1:20 a.m. crash along the westbound lanes of MacArthur Causeway. "The driver went on to the shoulder and bicycle lane of the causeway where they unfortunately struck and killed a cyclist." A witness who remained on the scene spoke to police officers and the was closed until about 11:15 a.m. Officers were asking drivers leaving Miami Beach to use the Julia Tuttle Causeway or the Venetian Causeway. Rodriguez said traffic homicide investigators recovered the vehicle believed in the crash and they are still searching for a suspect.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - Miami Beach robbery detectives arrested a man Thursday who they said snatched cellphones from at least three tourists this week. The first robbery occurred around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday as the 46-year-old victim from the Bronx was walking along the 1000 block of Collins Avenue. According to Miami Beach police spokesman Ernesto Rodriguez, the man approached the victim from behind and snatched her Samsung cellphone from her hand. The second robbery occurred around 7:10 a.m. Wednesday along 18th Street and Collins Avenue. Rodriguez said the 35-year-old victim from Ocoee, near Orlando, was also walking when the thief snatched her iPhone from her hand.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - Southbound lanes of Alton Road were shut down for several hours Wednesday afternoon after a construction accident left wet concrete on several vehicles, Miami Beach police confirmed. According to Miami Beach police spokesman Ernesto Rodriguez, Alton Road was shut down from Lincoln Road to 16th Street after the incident occurred just before 1 p.m. Authorities said concrete was being used at a construction site when it spilled over to a Wells Fargo Bank parking lot. Video taken at the scene shows wet concrete covering several vehicles. Authorities have issued a stop order to the construction company involved in the accident, until an investigation into the incident is complete.

Miami Beach police said a man tried to rob the Regions Bank branch at 780 Arthur Godfrey Road around 9 a.m. Police investigate an attempted robbery at the Regions Bank branch on West 41st Street in Miami Beach. Miami Beach Police DepartmentMeanwhile, a second bank was targeted Friday a short time after the attemped robbery at the Regions Bank. According to Marshall, detectives believe Friday's two incidents in Miami Beach are connected, although the thief was wearing a white shirt and bright blue hat during the second incident.

MIAMI - A car drove through a police barricade Thursday morning and then crashed into the water near Watson Island, Miami Beach police said. Police pursued the car along the causeway before it drove into Biscayne Bay, Rodriguez said. The man then got out of the submerged car and took off his clothes before surrendering to police, Rodriguez said. Nobody was hurt, but divers searched the water to make sure nobody else was in the car. Miami Beach police had blocked off the westbound lanes of the MacArthur Causeway while they were investigating a fatal crash earlier in the morning.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A man killed in a hit-and-run crash early Tuesday in Miami Beach has been identified as Andrew Hamilton, 27, who was a tourist visiting from the U.K.Police said a man driving a silver BMW sped past a police office on Collins Avenue near 15th Street about 2:30 a.m. When the officer went to investigate, he found Hamilton dead in the street near Collins Avenue at 11th Street. "He was traveling southbound from about 15th Street at a very high rate of speed, which resulted in this tragedy," Miami Beach police spokesman Ernesto Rodriguez said. Police questioned three women who were in the car, but said the driver ditched the car and ran off. Anyone with information about the identity of the driver is asked to call Miami Beach police or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
