Miami-Dade inmate back in custody after being released by error
MIAMI – A fugitive who corrections officers erroneously released on Monday from the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade County was taken back into custody Friday morning, authorities confirmed. Juan Diasgranados, a spokesman for the Miami-Dade Corrections & Rehabilitation Department, said Orama was a minimum custody level inmate held on charges of probation violation, obstruction by a disguised person, shooting or throwing a deadly missile and criminal mischief. His Orama record in Miami-Dade shows a series of cases from the 80s, including cocaine and marijuana-related charges. The Miami-Dade record listing Orama as his last name showed he was convicted of throwing a deadly missile in 2010 and sentenced to five years in prison. Miami-Dade Corrections Division Chief Enrique Rodriguez told the judge Orama Cabana had promised to surrender and failed to do so.

As soon as the error was discovered, the MDCR requested the assistance of our law enforcement partners to assist in locating the offender. Our review of the circumstances surrounding this inmate release is ongoing, to include a full internal investigation.”

A witness said Alemu, 19, told Kapelushnik that he had not taken a picture of him, but he didn’t believe him. Prosecutors said Alemu still needs to undergo surgery nearly a week after the attack. “The actions that put a young man in the hospitals are crimes, plain and simple,” Fernandez Rundle wrote.

Inmates denied visits at Miami-Dade County jails to reduce COVID-19 pandemic’s impact
MIAMI – Inmates in Miami-Dade County will not be able to see their loved ones starting Thursday, the Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department announced. The temporary measure to prevent the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic doesn’t apply to essential professional visitation, which will be allowed through an under-glass partition area. “We have no known cases of COVID-19 within our facilities,” said Juan Diasgranados, a spokesman for the department. Attorneys who have traveled to China, South Korea or Italy or who have recently been in a cruise ship will not be allowed in, Diasgranados said. “MDCR will continue to closely monitor the situation daily to help protect the health of inmates, visitors, volunteers, and our employees,” Diasgranados said.
